'Millions of jobs' to be created in green sector

University leavers looking for graduate jobs with a social responsibility have been given some hope by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which claims positions could be created with government investment.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said that the UK has a solid base for which to launch a thriving green sector, which could yield many jobs to be taken advantage of by graduates.

He added: "By investing heavily and regulating in favour of green technology, the government can turn the UK into a world leader and create over a million skilled jobs."

The government already plans to create 1.2 million green jobs by 2020, which could be taken up by graduates, in order to boost the environmentally-friendly profile of the UK above countries like Germany and Spain.

Ener-G, a firm which focuses on renewable power, recently said that its new graduate recruitment scheme will see university leavers trained for executive positions within two years.
