Job Title: Aviation Manager
Salary: £43,200 – £65,500 depending on skills and experience + excellent benefits + car/cash allowance + annual bonus
Permanent | Full Time Hours
As Aviation Manager, you’ll be working across an exciting portfolio of onshore and offshore wind farm projects throughout the development lifecycle of projects from feasibility through development to construction and operation interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams at all levels across the business.
You will have responsibility for co-ordinating the management and assessment of wind farm projects in terms of aviation impacts and seeking solutions to project aviation issues.
Other responsibilities will include:
-Assessing the impact of projects on UK Low Flying System and associated aircraft operations and participate in radar line of sight analysis using ATDI software tools and assessment of safeguarding impacts in accordance with civil and military guidance
-Produce aviation inputs into scoping reports and EIA/ES chapters
-Verification of system design requirements and aviation planning conditions,
-Provide technical support to the evaluation of new technologies for wind farm mitigation
-Support the delivery of Aviation Mitigation Schemes including review of safety documentation,
-Contribute to the lessons learnt process, maintain risk registers and ensure aviation risks have been updated
-Represent SSE on professional forums, seminars or public inquiries as required.
Your Skills & Experience
The Aviation Manager is a very specialist role within our Generation Development business area, and brings fantastic opportunities to be directly involved in some of SSE’s biggest onshore, offshore and Thermal projects. Therefore, we are looking for a skilled individual who possesses the following;
-Knowledge of aviation requirements for major capital projects
-Radar engineering/technical experience
-Knowledge of the UK and Ireland energy markets, and associated government energy policies.
-Significant experience of obtaining aviation consents, including new radar requests, and the negotiation, securing and management of contracts.
-Experience of managing aviation risks and issues with a direct focus on cost.
-Understanding of health and safety legislation and practices.
-Project management expertise, specifically project definition, set up, planning, cost, risk, quality and commercial management.
-Experience managing consultants and acting as a liaison between various aviation authorities.
Whilst we are looking for you to have a radar/technical background, those with commercial and contract negotiation experience with knowledge of project management will also be considered. Having worked within a similar industry, you’ll be experienced working alongside related industry groups and government officials. It goes without saying that outstanding stakeholder management skills will be essential to enable you to forge strong relationships and effectively influence and negotiate on all levels.
