At SSE we believe in making a difference. Our job is to provide the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way. That's why we've invested over £1 billion in UK infrastructure in the past year alone, paid £1 billion in taxes since 2011, and employ over 19,000 people across the UK and Ireland.

We are a leading generator of renewable energy in Great Britain and Ireland. Our Renewables business is responsible for the development, construction and operation of SSE's renewable portfolio, including onshore and offshore wind and hydro.

We have an opportunity for a Control Room Operator to support our £2.4billion offshore wind farm at Wick. When constructed Beatrice will consist of 84 turbines which will power over 450,000 homes and the operations and maintenance for the wind farm will be run from our new £10m state of the art facility at Wick harbour.

You will work within a team who is responsible for remotely monitoring and controlling the 588MW offshore wind farm and transmission assets. This will include co-ordinating with teams working offshore during operational and maintenance activities and with the marine coordination team.

You will ensure all site operations comply with policies, procedures, HSE and OEM recommendations and control the High Voltage systems onshore and offshore in accordance with company safety rules. Operating plant via SCADA you will respond to any abnormal deviations as they arise and National Grid instructions when received.

To be successful in this role you will either have a Recognised background in Electrical Engineering or Controls and Instrumentation with minimum of a relevant ONC or equivalent with experience of working within a control room environment, ideally with an HV electrical focus.

Previous experience of working with a Safe System of Work, knowledge of HV safety rules, ideally with or working towards AP status and working to Production Targets would be desirable.

Good communication skills are essential to ensure you can work across multidiscipline teams and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders. You will be comfortable working to tight deadlines.

The role will entail working on a shift rota at our O&M Base in Wick therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance of the base, or be willing to relocate. During the construction phase of the wind farm you will be asked to work at the Blackhillock sub station control room near Keith to assist with construction operations.

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 31st of January 2018

If successful we will ask you to complete verification and vetting process. This will include a basic criminal record check.
