Our summer placement opportunities offer you the opportunity not only to play a part in achieving our goals, but to grow with us as well. As we look to finding better, more efficient and affordable ways of producing energy, there’s huge scope for you to make a real contribution at SSE.
We have opportunities within our Generation and Renewables business for Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering undergraduates. You will work with us to turn data into information; giving us an insight into the health of our generation assets. This could be the performance of our wind turbines, both onshore and offshore, or modelling the creep life of high temperature components in our thermal power stations. You'll need a good understanding of power generation systems, an analytical approach and a passion for finding value in data.
What Programmes are available:-
Engineering Centre of Excellence
In addition to our power stations, our Engineering Centre provides effective long-term asset management and investment planning capability across our Generation portfolio. Opportunities are available for civil, electrical and mechanical engineering students that will be entering the final year of a Masters Degree in September 2019. These roles can be based in either Glasgow or Ferrybridge.
SSE are the UK's leading generator of renewable energy, owning and operating almost half of the UK’s total renewable generation capacity including Europe’s largest wind farm. Opportunities are available for civil and mechanical engineering students. Civil engineering students will ideally be entering the final year of their degree in September 2019. Mechanical engineering students will ideally be entering the final two years of their studies in September 2019.
What do I need?
Candidates should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long term future with us. We're looking for the future leaders of our business; it's therefore important that you are flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making. The ability to interpret numerical and contractual data is paramount as well as effective communication of your conclusions. Interpersonal skills are vital as you will be responsible for representing the business at all levels and with various internal and external stakeholders.
Closing date for applications: 17th February 2019
Successful candidates will be subject to our verification and vetting process which includes a qualification and basic criminal record check.
