Our Role

Provide data solutions (e.g. data acquisition, automated data feed(s), data integration, data modelling), to the SSE Airtricity business, which deliver tangible business value. Key accountabilities include:

-Requirements gathering

Liaise with key business stakeholders to gather and document key functional and non-functional requirements of identified data feeds e.g. external data via API for Digital reporting. This is to ensure that any data collected, and any data assets built meet the business need/solve the business problem

-Core solution design, development and implementation

Based on the data requirements, design, develop, test and deploy the required data solution(s) e.g. data acquisition, automated data feed(s), data integration, data modelling. This will require both technical knowledge, adherence to a structured design approach and working with various stakeholders (e.g. working with application support providers to deploy solutions to production)

-Critical asset management

Develop a deep understanding of our core data solution(s) (e.g. Datawarehouse, ETL process(es)) so that any new developments are designed with the knowledge of how they will impact (and potentially integrate with) existing assets. Although technical support for day to day running of, for example Datawarehouse processes is in place from IT, the Data Engineer will be accountable for identifying and consulting on improvements of data mechanisms, data capture, processing, ETL, data modelling and use in analytics etc.

-Strategy development

This could include items such as the processing and management of data in SMART metering

-Compliance ownership

Own and lead the data management and data compliance strategy within the Data and Analytics team. This includes developing, implementing and owning processes such as intermittent data protection “spot checks” on the databases/systems under the team’s remit. It also includes considering data protection throughout the end to end development cycle e.g. completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments if required.

Your Skills and Experience

-Ideally BSc or equivalent in technical field (Computer Science/ Applied Science/ Engineering/ Maths)

-Significant experience in a data engineer role which included requirements gathering, design, development, test and deployment of various data solution(s) e.g. data acquisition, automated data feed(s), data integration, data modelling.

-Proven ability to develop and implement to a required standard e.g. use of coding standards, code version control, exception handling, error logging, etc.

-Proven ability to manage core data assets e.g. ETL processes, data models, etc.

-Demonstrated ability to integrate disparate data sources into complex datasets which deliver value to the business

-Deep understanding of core datawarehousing/Business Technology required: RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle database, etc.)

-Highly skilled in data management and integration tools such as Oracle Data Integrator, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, Informatica PowerCenter, IBM InfoSphere DataStage, Python scripting, Bash scripting, Linux administration – experience in Oracle Data Integrator particularly advantageous

-Experience of integration of APIs into BI/warehouse advantageous

-Good understanding of data formats e.g. Json, CSV, XML

-Skilled in querying and data manipulation tools e.g. SQL, R, Python to create data models, data views, etc. from data source(s)
