Our Company

At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.

Fifty-Nine Scottish islands are currently connected to the electricity network that serves mainland Great Britain by the Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution's submarine electricity cables. There are 112 submarine electricity cables totalling over 450 km - with some cables having been in place for over 50 years.

A number of our submarine electricity cable assets are nearing the end of their operational and economical life. This means that we are embarking on a significant programme of investment to ensure that we continue to provide a safe, reliable, secure supply of electricity to the Islands who depend on them.
