Electrical Owners Engineer - Energy Storage & Gas Peaking Plants

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for developing and optimising the electrical design of a fleet of large utility scale energy storage and gas peaking project. This shall include:

  1. Developing high level electrical design of utility scale energy storage and gas peaking projects including:
    1. SLDs
    2. Losses calculations
    3. PCS / battery interface
  2. Undertaking an Owners Engineer role, providing review of electrical design work undertaken by contractors, in particular:
    1. Review of contractor designs and calculations
    2. Earthing designs
    3. Protection
    4. Fault levels
    5. Grid studies – P28, G5/4, load flow analysis
  3. Providing high level specification of electrical equipment (with technical input from specialist designers)
    1. Transformers, switchgear etc
  4. Representing the company in meetings with DNOs, suppliers and on site
  5. Assisting project managers in ensuring DNO, ICP, EPC and other contractors deliver their electrical scope to specification, on time and on budget

Useful Additional Skills

In addition to the main duties, it would be beneficial if the Electrical Engineer had some or all of the following skills:

  • Ability to liaise with DNOs to manage and optimise the design and delivery of grid connection offers
  • Controls capability, in particular PLC and SCADA
  • Matlab / Python skills
  • Knowledge of solar and/or energy storage and/or gas engines
  • Experience of 132kV substation design
  • SAP

Experience

5-10 years within a renewables or energy generation environment (wind, solar, energy storage, gas peaking plants)

Experience with power electronics

Qualifications

MEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
