Utilities and Energy Engineer
Midlands (North)
£30-38,000 depending on experience
A design and project management specialist engineering company, providing services to process industries across the UK and Europe is recruiting for an experienced Energy and Utilities Engineer. Both Managing Contract and Main Contract/Turnkey assignments are undertaken, and they often take projects from concept study stage through to on-site project execution.
Services offered include Engineering Design Services in Building & Civils, Building Services, Process Systems, Utilities, Packaging Systems, Electrical, and Automation.
Responsibilities
- Developing engineering solutions to solve complex client problems with responsibility for delivery from initial conception through to final handover
- Working as part of a multi-disciplined project teams leading the utilities engineering discipline
- Production of engineering designs including: block-flow diagrams, sizing calculations, layouts & associated drawings, flowsheets, P&IDs, data sheets & schedules, and scope of work documents (incorporating measurable performance requirements)
- Management of supplier/contractor designs & manufacturing activities, works inspections/factory acceptance tests
- Technical support of site works
- Cost control (compiling cost estimates, quotations, managing variations and cost to complete).
Skills and Experience
- Ideally degree educated in an engineering discipline (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc) with professional engineering status (chartered engineer). Candidates with HNC or above and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience of generation and distribution of compressed air, heating (steam, hot water, oil), chilled water, refrigeration, and process water treatment (RO, carbon filtration, etc) ideally gained in one of the following sectors: food, drinks, brewing, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, healthcare products
- Experience of providing engineering services, advisory services or consultancy services. Practical knowledge of the issues involved in supporting and maintaining media/utilities systems would be an advantage.
- Business Development through either: Extensive knowledge of utilities systems/equipment suppliers, some specialist knowledge that could provide a consulting income stream (energy optimisation, renewable energy, sustainability, etc), or experience in commercial practice/contracts.
- The ideal candidatewill be pro-active in managing their own professional development, with a proven commercial outlook, and an eye for detail as well as understanding the importance of quality.
- The ability to sell, communicate, and cooperate in the development of engineering ideas and concepts in a direct face-to-face way is essential.
- Most work is UK based, although the flexibility to travel overseas on occasion is essential.
