Salary: £51,100 – £77,300 depending on skills and experience + excellent benefits + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

As Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for the Management of a discipline based Engineering Team providing specialist technical expertise across the diverse range of Generation assets. You’ll be accountable for the delivery of an Asset Integrity programme appropriate to the specific engineering discipline, development and on-going management of relevant Engineering and Design Standards, and act as Technical Authority during new build project design development and construction activities.
Some of your other main accountabilities will include;
*Ensuring SSE and Engineering Centre processes and procedures are carried out effectively and consistently across the team.
*Accountability for the safe operational management of the team by ensuring all staff are competent to deliver the appropriate safety standards and procedures, and are actively engaged with applying safety standards; improvements and development opportunities.
*The implementation and on-going management of the Engineering Centre’s Competency Framework Manual
*Identify opportunities to increase the value contribution of the Engineering Centre to the wider Wholesale and SSE business.
*Responsible for ensuring the quality of works delivered by the Engineering Team is of the required standard, and meets the requirements of the customer or stakeholder.
*The development and on-going management of a Team Succession plan, actively identifying and delivering development requirements for the future skills requirement of the wider team.
*Promoting and delivering knowledge management activities across the Engineering Centre to ensure continuous improvements are applied across the team; to support the on-going development of staff; and ensure the appropriate skills are utilised across the wider team to support delivery.
Your Skills & Experience
We are looking for a skilled engineering manager who is highly motivated and committed to be able to organise and motivate an engineering team to deliver high quality specialist work. You’ll be required to hold a chartered engineering qualification and be a member of the Engineering Council. Experience within a technical/engineering environment will be essential, and you should have a solid understanding of the Generation and Gas Storage markets.
Having experience operating within a similar position, you’ll be capable of setting a strong safety culture, leading by example, and establishing a team who are highly engaged with applying safety standards and pursuing improvements.
Outstanding communication skills will be a must, so that you can build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders and the wider business. A detailed understanding of technical and commercial interactions will be required, as will strong organisations skills in order to organise team resources across a number of business priorities without impacting agreed timescale and quality.
