ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISOR - POWER (GAS) - MANCHESTER AND EAST OF ENGLAND

We're looking for skilled, expert and motivated people who'll help us meet national needs in transportation, energy and water. This is where you come in:

Due to the expansion of Costain's business within the UK we have a requirement for an Environmental Advisor to join our expanding QHSE Team on a Prestigious Gas Compression Project which will initially be based out of our offices in Manchester and then be required to provide support through Construction and commissioning phase on site in Cambridgeshire. Previous experience within the Gas sector would be a distinct advantage.

The Environmental Advisor position will be a key role within the Project and will cover the full scope of the Project from intially in design working with the design safety and project engineering team
The succesful candidiate will be required to identify sustainable design solutions and support the proejct teams on site during the construction and commissioning phases.
This position would ideally suit someone who is looking to make the transition into a future Managerial role.

Key responsibilities will include:

. Understand the Company Health & Safety and Environmental (SHE) Policies and Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented.
. Assist in providing and/or directly provide advice on the practical implementation of the company's E policies and processes
. Assist the SHE Manager or delegate and Contract Management in understanding of stakeholders (internal and external) aims, priorities and risks with regards to SHE
. Assist, where needed, with the development of Health, Safety and Environmental Management plans if applicable and coordination of review
. Liaise with and manage the output from external Environmental consultants.
. Develop specific plans for the management of Noise, Dust, Biodiversity, Waste and Water
. Develop Sustainability Action Plans and monitor the National Grid sustainability tool
. Take the lead on site for all Environmental issues
. Develop and support the management of the Environmental Impacts and Aspects Register
. Assist in providing operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of environmental hazrads and incidents.
. Assist with, and where necessary, provide advice and guidance for obtaining legal consents, licenses and exemptions such as discharge consents, abstraction licenses and waste management licenses as and when required and as directed.
. Assist the SHE Manager and other members of the SHE team, in key tasks to assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
. Assist SHE Manager, or delegate and Contract Management in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, HSE, EA, and others as required and directed
. Assist with and undertake SHE Advisory Visit, Inspections and Audits where required of operational sites. Participate, as requested in "Company" Group SHE audits.
. Research and encourage the implementation of Environmental best practices as directed by the SHE Manager or delegate
. Provide support to the management team with regards to marketing, tenders and pre-qualification information
. When directed, assist with the preparation of E risk assessments and Method Statements
. Assist in the review of Subcontractor RAMS and documentation
. Assist with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of E performance as directed
. Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents as directed.
. Assist in the preparation and implementation of E training/briefings, as directed.
. Actively promote the company 'BE SAFE', 'BE HEALTHY' and 'Be responsible"' messages in addition to the implementation of best practice principles across the business and to include stakeholders such as the supply chain.
. Promote best practice, capture best practice and ensure it is fed-back into the business
. Set standards and lead by example in the management of E
. Liaise with the other members of the SHE Team and the wider organisation with regards to SHE
. Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relations to SHE Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership
. Obtain competency cards in line with the company Competence Card Compliance Policy e.g. CSCS/CCNSG

Qualifications

. Environmental based Diploma or appropriate degree
. A minimum of 3 to 5 year's industry experience
. Associate Member IEMA or equivalent

Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours:

. Has experience in provisions of environmental determinations
. Has experience in obtaining and interpreting new legislation and its impact on gas specific projects
. Understand the interface between H&S issues and environmental issues
. Has experience in planning/consenting processes (particularly with relevance to their specialism)
. Has experience in the assistance for production and review of RAMS/works procedures
. Understands the risks of hazardous areas
. Good interpersonal skills
. Good communication skills (written and verbal)
