Job Summary:

Our client, a prestigious and world leading multi-disciplinary consultancy has a fantastic career opportunity for an Environmental Consultant, to be based in their Edinburgh Office.  You would be part of our hugely busy and successful Environment Energy Team, who are currently delivering some 18GW+ of consenting applications within the UK, but also part of a global organisation.

The Environmental Consultant will work in the coastal and marine renewables sector in Scotland and elsewhere, with excellent knowledge of the renewables sector, the legislation in place, the major developments underway and the consent process that is being followed.  You will be working on a number of high profile Environmental Impact Assessments and should have a working knowledge of this process.

In addition, you will have a technical grounding in one of the following areas:

  • Marine biology
  • Fisheries and/or
  • Ornithology

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting project managers for marine renewable projects within project teams.
  • Deliver high quality advice, reports and other outputs in projects, including EIA, Environmental Management Plans (EMP), strategic studies, and planning and consenting advice.
  • Manage and prepare proposals for specialist as well as multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Key specialist skills e.g. ornithology, fisheries, and marine mammals.
  • Technical skills in data management, such as statistical analysis and modelling, as well as GIS. 

Qualifications / Experience:

Essential:

  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • BSc in a relevant scientific subject
  • Experience in the renewables industry, preferably in the wind farm sector and within the marine and coastal environment
  • Project management and EIA experience
  • Previous experience in Environmental Consultancy
  • Understanding of environmental law, the EIA process and relevant government policy
  • Financial management and administrative experience

Desirable:

  • MSc in a relevant scientific degree
  • The candidate should also be able to demonstrate good knowledge and experience of the regulatory and legislative system particularly relating to fisheries or marine biology or ornithology
  • IEMA or similar membership or chartered status
