Environmental Consultant: Noise and Air quality



Permanent, Part Time (3 days per week)

We have a career defining opportunity for an ambitious Environmental Consultant who is looking to build their reputation and knowledge though providing a consultancy role in respect of planning application assessments and advice. This will require you providing technical advice in respect of air quality, noise and contaminated land matters. The Role:

As Environmental Consultant: Noise and Air quality, you will be part of a successful team providing our core client Salford City Council with high quality, timely and technical advice.

You will be accountable for:

- Processing planning applications in a timely manner, producing robust reports and recommendations to achieve desired and deliverable outcomes.
- Contributing to service improvements managing your work to ensure client KPIs are met/exceeded in terms of timeliness and quality of output, adding value wherever possible.
- Contributing to the delivery and improvement of business management systems, procedures and processes.
- Providing support and guidance to peers and more junior staff to distribute knowledge and ensure contemporary planning issues and legislation are cascaded and understood.
- Supporting the growth of the team by making a positive contribution to business development, securing repeat work and applying a commercial lens to all work undertaken and behaviours.

What you will do:

- Undertake environmental consultancy responsibilities in respect of planning applications and other consultations
- Assess and provide technical advice with regard to environmental and health impacts (noise, air quality and contaminated land) of planning applications.
- Provide support services to local authority clients with regard to Environmental Protection matters as necessary.
- Review and report on environmental statements including noise, air quality and remediation of contaminated sites
- Manage and deliver geo-environmental desk study and ground investigation projects, and contaminated land regulatory services ensuring technical integrity.
- Manage and deliver air quality and/or noise projects ensuring technical integrity.
- Provide environmental support and advice to the company's other services and business units, including air quality, noise, contaminated land and environmental pollution related matters.
- Assist in promoting the company and marketing its services to the area.
- Assisting in the development of new business opportunities in respect of air quality, noise and contaminated land assessments and advice.
- To undertake such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post

Skills and Experience

- Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Post-graduate professional experience or qualification in one, or involving two or more, earth science aspects of: Acoustics; Noise Control, Contaminated Land/Landfill Gas, Geochemistry, Air Quality including relevant legislation, statutory guidance and British Standards
- Experience in Contaminated land site investigations and risk assessment.
- Working with Planning Authorities and elected members in the areas of strategic planning and development control.
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently and feel confident to present seminars
- Ability to deliver, manage and monitor workload to ensure timescales and targets are consistently met.
- Commitment to work with other public and private sector clients and travel outside Salford's administrative boundaries.
- Experience in project and financial management
