Our client is part of a Global recycling / manufacturing group, a world leader in paper based packaging with over 45,000 employees across 34 countries and 370 subsidiaries and a sales revenue of ?8.1 billion in 2015.

They are looking for an enthusiastic professional to run its Compliance and Environmental Department at its manufacturing facility in Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for a creative and driven individual who enjoys working in a team environment and wishes to deliver constant improvement to the business.

Reporting to the Operations Director, main duties for the Compliance & Environmental Manager will include ensuring legal compliance with relevant environmental legislation in line with the environmental Permit (IPPC) as well as development and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS).

Ideally the successful applicant will hold a minimum of associate level membership of IEMA or CIWEM and be a trained internal auditor. Previous experience will be essential as will a good working knowledge of the Environmental Permitting regulations, ISO 14001, BS EN ISO 50001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS18001. Knowledge of EN 15593 GMP standard; FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody Standards & Mcerts would be seen as an advantage.

Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels within the organisation would be essential attributes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Compliance Manager / Environmental Manager

Responsible to: Operations Director

Responsible for: Compliance Assistant

Senior Management Role:

* To manage all aspects of the Compliance department, including full time support (Compliance Assistant).
* To take part in the activities of the Senior Team and be a fully functioning member of that team.
* To introduce other compliance related systems and project work as required by the organisation.
* To be on the Duty Managers rota, this involves being on call approximately 1 week in 8.
* To be available to handle all out of hours Compliance issues.
* To be available to carry out Emergency Team duties with the Senior Management Team.
* To be able to travel occasionally in order to take part in group and external conferences and meetings.
* To communicate all Compliance issues to the Company wide whether locally on the plant or collectively at a Team Briefing.

Quality System

* To monitor the operation of and maintain a quality system suitable to the business needs.
* To ensure accreditation to a suitable standard is maintained.
* To promote the use of the system and the philosophy of a quality organisation within the company.
* To consult and liaise with the Managers and Directors on changes to the system and the effects of the system on the business.
* To oversee the objectives and targets that the Company produce and ensure that they are reviewed at Senior Management meetings and Management reviews.

GMP System

* To monitor the operation of and be responsible for maintaining the BS15593 GMP system suitable to the business needs.
* To ensure accreditation to a suitable standard is maintained.
* To consult and liaise with the Managers and Directors on changes to the system and the effects of the system on the business.
* To maintain the GMP manual on behalf of the Company.
* To oversee the objectives and targets that the Company produce and ensure that they are reviewed at Senior Management meetings and Management reviews.

Chain of Custody System

* To monitor the operation of and maintain a CoC system suitable to the business needs.
* To ensure accreditation to a suitable standard is maintained.
* To consult and liaise with the Managers and Directors on changes to the system and the effects of the system on the business.

Environmental System

* To monitor the operation of and maintain an environmental standard suitable to the business needs.
* To be responsible for the establishment, implementation and maintenance of ISO14001,
ISO 50001 and Mcerts management systems.
* To obtain and maintain accreditation to a suitable standard.
* To promote the use of the system.
* To consult and liaise with Managers and Directors on changes to the system and the effects of the system on the business.
* Management of hazardous waste on/off site
* To take primary responsibility of, General Requirements, Documentation, Control of Documents, Evaluation of Compliance (Legal or other), Non Conformity, Correction and Preventative Action, Control of Records and Internal Audit.
* To take supporting responsibility of, the Environmental and Energy Policy, Environmental and Energy Aspects, Legal and Other Requirements, Objectives Targets and Programmes, Resources, Roles, Responsibility & Authority, Competence, Training and Awareness, Communication, Operational Control, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Monitoring and Measurement and Management Review.
* To liaise and communicate with the EA and ensure that our Permit to Operate is relevant to our business needs.

Health & Safety System

* To establish and implement OHSAS18001, suitable to SSK's business needs.
* To obtain and maintain accreditation to a suitable standard.
* To promote the use of the system and develop the Health & Safety culture in conjunction with members of the Senior Team.
* To consult and liaise with the Managers and Directors on changes to the system and the effects of the system on the business.
* To take primary responsibility of; Legal and Other Requirements, Documentation, Document & Data Control and Records & Record Management.
