Environmental & Sustainability Manager
About the Role
Our Environmental & Sustainability Manager plays a crucial role in shaping and driving forward the environmental agenda and the sustainability programme at our Refresco Beverages UK site in Bridgwater.
This role reports to the Health & Safety Manager and works closely with a large number of internal stakeholders such as Production and Engineering to ensure compliance and awareness in the area of environmental controls and sustainability.
The main purposes of the role are to:
o Effectively manage and drive the environmental agenda to ensure that all personnel are operating in a legally compliant environment across the entire Refresco Beverages UK Ltd site;
o Maintain systems in line with both ISO14001 and Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) requirements and within the parameters of the EA Permit;
o Implement and drive a sustainability programme identifying cost saving initiatives to reduce energy & water use, reduce effluent & waste and improve recycling.
The main duties & responsibilities of the Environmental & Sustainability Manager are:
o Ensure compliance with ISO14001, IPPC requirements and EA permit through the operating teams.
o Coach, mentor and train environmental responsibilities.
o Be a point of reference to operations on environmentally related incident investigation.
o Conduct planned inspections in relation to the agreed standards within the environmental agenda.
o Ensure that submissions in respect of Climate Change Levy (CCL) and European Emissions Training Scheme (EUETS) are accurately completed and submitted within required time frames.
o Maintain legal register and review on an annual basis.
o Manage the site protection monitoring plan.
o Implement and ensure continuity of the site sustainability forums across the site.
o Conduct audits across the site to drive a reduction in energy & water usage.
o Investigate high energy & water usage where ratios exceed site KPI's.
o Identify recycling opportunities and keep abreast with new streams of recycling.
o Implement and maintain carbon footprint programme.
o Ensure Group CRS objectives are implemented.
o Achieve KPIs set for sustainability.
Energy Management - ISO5001
o Implement ISO 50001 framework and be certification ready within two (2) years
You will need to be an outstanding communicator, with good influencing skills so that you can build and maintain positive relationships with your stakeholders and engage strongly with them. You will posses a strong commercial sense allowing you to identify the most important business matters as far an the environment and sustainability is concerned.
You will have experience of sustainability in a manufacturing environment (FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Food & Drink) and you will have knowledge of environmental governance and management systems.
An environmental management qualification is essential for this role and IEMA membership is an advantage.
Experience in the following areas is desirable: compliance and management of ISO 4001, PPC applications, interpretation of full environmental legal compliance, strong computer skills especially MS Excel.

Refresco Beverages UK based Bridgwater , Somerset, employs 850 people and we run four factories producing circa 700 million litres per annum, our target is a billion litres by the end of 2018, and we are well on target to achieve this goal. We work with all the leading UK retailers including Tesco, ASDA, Morrison's and Sainsbury to produce their private labels and with branded customers such as Innocent, Ocean Spray and Um Bongo.
Refresco floated publicly on the Euronext stock exchange in March 2015. In July 2016 we announced the acquisition of Whitlock Packaging in the US, our first foray in to the US drinks market, adding 900 million litres of drinks per annum to our production.
