About the role
Capita, one of the UK's leading design, engineering, environment and infrastructure consultancies, require a Graduate Environmental Consultant to support our expanding Environment Team, being based from either our Basingstoke or East Grinstead office. As part of your role you will contribute to delivering projects for the Environment Agency and other clients across England and Wales. Projects will include a variety of fluvial and coastal flooding projects, as well as strategies and other infrastructure projects (water, rail, housing or commercial property). You will be helping to deliver the environmental and EIA elements of those projects.

Following 2 years of continued success and growth in Capita's Water and Environment team, we are expanding our teams across all levels to support our delivery of a variety of projects in the Rivers and Coastal sector whilst supporting our Water, Rail, Highways and Tunnels divisions. Our key clients include the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and other leading national and international infrastructure providers.
The Capita infrastructure division delivers projects in the UK and across the globe. We have successfully delivered many high profile projects including the award-winning Newhaven Flood Alleviation Scheme, Dalmuir Wastewater Treatment Works in Scotland and the 400M Shatin-Central Link Cross-Harbour Tunnels in Hong Kong.
We have recently won a 1M package of flood alleviation schemes in the Northwest of England and a number of site supervision contracts for flood alleviation schemes across the Southeast. Our pipeline of opportunities includes some of the most exciting major infrastructure projects in Europe, including HS2 Phases 1 and 2 and the Oosterwelt Link Immersed Tube Tunnel in Belgium.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our expansion process and to help Capita maintain and grow our position as a leading supplier of engineering and environmental services.
Key skills required:
Knowledge / experience of the EIA process
Knowledge of Environmental Legislation
Knowledge / experience of working with stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent report writing skills
Experience of working as part of a team
In addition to the above, knowledge or experience of any the following would be beneficial:
Work experience in delivering EIA
Experience of Project work
Work experience on rail projects
Work experience on river/coastal projects
Town and Country Planning
Health Impact Assessments
Environmental Clerk of Works/Environmental site audits
As part of your role you will be asked to develop the technical aspects of projects from feasibility to detailed design with particular regards to the environmental assessment process, consultation, applying for consents and submitting a planning application.
As the successful candidate, you will hold a BSc/MSc in a related Environmental Science field and be a member of a relevant institution. You will also drive on behalf of the company to visit clients/sites etc and therefore a valid UK driving licence is essential.
