Head of Occupational Health - Overview

As the Head of Occupational Health (OH), you will lead the occupational health strategy to mitigate any health risks for the individual and the organisation by deployment of interventions; promoting good work and personal health behaviours whilst increasing the profitability of the business.

• Base salary : Up to £85,000 (experience related) + Bonus + Benefits (or package to c. £116,000)
• Location : Staines ( TW18 3BY); Travel to other British Gas sites

Head of Occupational Health - The Role

• Provide strategic OH direction for British Gas (BG) that best meets the needs of the business. Integrate the health function into core HSE whilst partnering with HSE professionals
• Create an engaging workplace health programme that motivates employees, develops manager capability and delivers outstanding results
• Drive outstanding health performance through an efficient operating model for Occupational Health delivery (for British Gas and Centrica), deployment of appropriate systems, resources and support infrastructure are in place to successfully handle c. 10000 referrals/pa (2011 data)
• Provide the technical OH expertise for the business and interface at senior management level
• Ownership and responsibility for maintaining portfolio of Group wide policies
• Develop a Health Management system for BG Occupational Health that supports the function, health professional and organisation
• Accountable for OH elements of statutory and Group audit and close out of actions and remedial actions
• Maintain a governance structure to ensure compliance with all ethical and legal requirements relating to OH provisions and service delivery
• Manage Centrica third party supplier relationships to ensure provision of services at market competitive rates
• Collaborate with Group CR and HSE to build the Board, CEC and CR reporting requirements for the Group occupational health performance.

Head of Occupational Health - The Person

• Technical/Educational: Strong occupational health background with in depth understanding of clinical / professional and customer service issues;
• Experience of data analysis and interpretation · Experience: Demonstrable functional expertise that extends wider than the organisation; Appetite to be adventurous and a risk taker to find solutions to drive innovation, efficiencies and best fit for the organisation.
• Relationship: Strong people management and team engagement skills
• Leadership: Able to lead a geographically dispersed virtual team (n= 33); Proficient contract and budget expertise ; Confident presentation skills
• Environment: Able to support the breadth of delivery, travelling extensively through the UK to engage with multilevel stakeholders. Has resilience to manage the growing demands of the service
