POSITION DESCRIPTION
Heavy Equipment Trainer
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
- To evaluate and train mine operators on all heavy equipment;
- To reduce number of incidents of property damage;
- To develop training modules for heavy equipment operators;
- To maintain training documentation for all heavy equipment operators.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
Safety
- Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed andmonitor standards.
- Actively promote and foster the development of proactive behaviours that make safety an integral part of all work activities.
- Attend all relevant toolbox meetings.
- Full compliance with project safety management plan.
- Assist with accident/incident investigations and with the induction and training of new employees.
Environment
- Report all observed environmental incidents and non-compliances.
- Maximise the use of environmentally friendly and recyclable products.
- Full compliance with the project environmental management plan.
- Complete Environmental training module within the mining skills matrix program.
- Provide Environmental leadership by always setting a good example.
Teamwork
- Develop an understanding of the cultural backgrounds of employees and how these cultures can be harmoniously integrated into the workplace;
- Foster an amicable but professional working relationship with all employees and contractors;
- Provide adequate training to ensure that there is always one person within the section capable of covering this position.
Systems
- Contribute toward good communication within the Mining Department and other departments by developing and maintaining a team environment, which is conducive to two way communication.
- Contribute towards the maintenance of the image of a professional Service Department that is available to provide all services/ duties requested by other Departments.
- Provide assistance to other members of the Mining Department when requested.
- Propose work practice improvement and quality control methodologies
Department Role
- The mine operations department role is to mine material in a safe and cost effective manner through:
o Ongoing training of mine operators
o Efficient use of available resources (personnel and equipment)
- To deliver ore to the process plant endeavouring to procure with minimum dilution and maximum recovery that which can be practically achieved with the resources at hand
- To work harmoniously with the Mine technical and Mine maintenance departments to achieve the above objects
Information
- Ensure the production of accurate and timely information for the site customers in compliance with instructions/ procedures forassigned tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a hard rock open pit mining environment, in progressively responsible positions. Previous experience as a Heavy Equipment Trainer or equivalent position highly desirable;
- Operating surface mining equipment or heavy construction equipment experience highly desirable;
