Job Title: Mechanical Multi-skilled Craftsperson
Location: Dundreggan Dam, by Fort Augustus
Salary: SSE4 £24,923 – £32,919 depending on skills and experience + excellent benefits + annual bonus

SSE Hydro Generation operates and maintains over 1000MW of Hydro Generation and associated infrastructure. Our Operations and Maintenance Teams are responsible for the operation and maintenance of our hydro generation assets. We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical / Multi-skilled Craftsperson to join our Hydro Generation Operations and Maintenance team based in the Great Glen.
The multi-disciplined team based in the Great Glen is responsible for the day to day operation, maintenance and repair of our Hydro Generation plant to ensure it is kept in a safe and efficient state. As an important member of the operations and maintenance team you will perform a key role in the safe operation and maintenance of the Hydro Generation assets.
You’ll be responsible for carrying out mechanical, electrical & civil maintenance activities within your competence, working with other maintenance personnel in day to day defect rectification, repair work and designated project work. You will also be involved in carrying out routine inspections and checks to ensure our equipment and fixed plant is kept to a high standard of operational effectiveness.
This role will require you to communicate regularly with other team members and report operational defects as they arise. You'll also carry out risk assessments, plus environmental and safety inspections, whilst being trained on how to operate fixed Generation plant.
Your Skills and Experience
We are looking for a practical person who has the ability to work as part of a team and has excellent communication skills, allowing you to affectively interact with the public and stakeholders across all levels of the business.
You will be computer literate and will be required to become proficient in using our maintenance scheduling and reporting software and other company software applications for which training will be given.
The job requires a highly flexible attitude to all aspects of work in the section. From time to time, you may be required to work outside in all weather conditions and it may be necessary to carry out work out of normal working hours when required. Your ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues is essential.
Applicants must have a mechanical or multi skilled craftsperson background and should ideally have previous experience of working on heavy rotating machinery. You should have a minimum qualification of NVQ Level 3 / City and Guilds or equivalent craft apprenticeship certificates.
A full current driving licence is essential, and a first aid qualification would be advantageous.
Applicants should ideally reside or be prepared to relocate, within 20 miles of Fort Augustus.
