SSE is the third largest energy generator by capacity on the island of Ireland, with over 1,800MW of thermal and renewable generation in operation, including 717MW of wind farm capacity. SSE has nearly 1,300MW of thermal generation capacity at our four power stations in Ireland. Our 468MW Great Island CCGT in Co. Wexford is one of Ireland's cleanest and most efficient power plants.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Operations Engineer at our Great Island power plant. Reporting to the Production Manager the main purpose of your role will be to provide assistance and technical support to the Production Team to ensure Great Island CCGT Power Station delivers all activities in line with the key goals of PEAR, availability, efficiency and flexibility.
A key part of the role will be to ensure Operational and System Safety readiness for planned Outages so that SSoW (Safe Systems of Work) personnel are suitably trained, competent and Authorised, and that the Production departments systems and procedures are robust, current, and comprehensive. You will develop Plant Shut-down, Isolation and Return to Service (RTS) Plans in conjunction with the Engineering Department for short and long Outages. In addition to this you will develop Start-up and Shut-down Procedures across Shifts. You will enact a substantive role in the Site Emergency Command team and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of Safety, Health & Environmental performance at Great Island CCGT
Also, the post holder will be responsible directing the Operations team to deliver the safe operation of the station’s generating plant to a continuously high standard of performance at optimum plant efficiency with maximum availability to achieve the Station’s business plan targets and objectives. You will produce regular operational reports, develop Operating Instructions and lead the development, improvement and adherence to robust Operations Work Control Documents which cover frequency of various Operational Tests, Plant Changeovers etc.
Representing the Production Manager in his absence, you will ensure effective communications between Shift Teams and inform them on all current corporate initiatives, news briefs and safety information, via regular team meetings and formal toolbox talks and all duties necessary to support the Production function.
To be successful in this role you must have robust experience and understanding in the operation of Power Stations or other Process Plants, and enhanced knowledge of Safe Systems of Work is essential. You must have as a minimum, a FETAC Level 8 Engineering Qualification or equivalent.
