Operations Manager - Smart Power/Emerging Business
 
Location: East Midlands
 
Built on over 70 years of expertise and supplying some 3,000 OEMs and utility customers worldwide, our client is a highly respected international company and an acknowledged leader in global power systems supply.
 
They currently require an action and execution oriented individual that will lead the development and implementation of global manufacturing strategies required to make them a strategic supplier to the Hybrid vehicle and Power generation Industries by 2013 and 20% market share by 2020.
 
Main Purpose of the Position
 
To identify and implement optimised manufacturing systems, processes and employment systems that safely deliver on cost, on time and on quality to a global market.
Develop and manage the global Operations capability for the Smart Power Business Unit.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Lead the development of systems to deliver against both company Operating System and TS16949 system.
Lead the development and implementation of a manufacturing strategy for Smart Power BU which delivers world class ppm quality levels, >95% productivity, < 0.5% scrap, 100% OTD TTD, RAW inventory turns > 26, WIP turns > 36, safety system providing 0.1 OSHA rate
Develop, monitor and report KPI's in line with the above
Lead the development and implementation of full volume manufacturing processes and flows that have been evaluated and proved within a lean environment
Actively assess and evaluate different safe manufacturing systems that support the above PPM targets, maximise productivity and ensure repeatability & reproducibility
Work closely with Supply, Quality and Engineering to ensure that product and materials are optimised for manufacturing and automation
Create an environment where quality is owned by the team and where quality and cost improvement activity comes from within
Produce accurate and timely forecasts covering CAPEX, expense, productivity, delivery
Manage CAPEX plan and equipment installation and validation
Lead Smart Power operational functional excellence to continually improve the business, enabling it to operate; better, faster, safer and more cost effectively
Develop teams and individuals, ensuring work plans, IDP's and reviews are in place and managed - in essence, be a net exporter of talent
Work closely with the wider business to ensure brand equity is enhanced and protected at all times
Develop and own the operations functional capability required to deliver and maintain a $200M business unit within the global structure
Managing a team of 10 including technicians and manufacturing engineers
Deliver against production plan as per financial forecast
Manage master scheduling and direct material delivery to meet production plans
 
Experience Required:
 
Strong and proven track record in execution and delivery
Excellent understanding of manufacturing systems with a bias toward lean manufacturing and automation
Strong teambuilding experience with an understanding of creating the right environment
Experience in automotive or aerospace environment
 
Education/qualifications required
 
Manufacturing / Engineering degree or extensive experience
Formal business qualification is desirable
Demonstrable operational management experience
Practical knowledge of TS16949 is desirable
