Job Title: Planning Engineer
Location: Perth or Inverness
Salary: up to £46,500 depending on skills and experience + annual bonus
Permanent | Full Time Hours | 37 hours per week
As a Planning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in planning and scheduling services across a wide range of projects for the Transmission Business Unit. You’ll be responsible for a portfolio of diverse projects at different stages of their lifecycle, from inception and early planning, through to construction and sign off. You’ll work closely with your colleagues in various departments to ensure all required elements are captured and being carried out effectively; you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the sites regularly, allowing your hands on insight into the projects.
This role is varied, and a typical day will involve speaking to different disciplines to gather updates, reviewing contractor programmes and incorporating them into internal schedules, attending progress meetings and producing progress reports for various stakeholders. This is a good opportunity to also learn and understand more about our Ofgem requirements, and how we develop business plans to support these requirements in our projects.
To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you hold a qualification in a relevant discipline, to a minimum SVQ/NVQ level 5, in a field such as construction management, engineering, project management, or related technical field. If you don’t hold a qualification, equivalent experience is also great. You’ll also hold skills in using various planning and scheduling systems, or project/program-planning software; we use Primavera P6, so any experience with this system is a bonus.
You should also hold experience in a similar role, and be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Energy industry, and the nature of our market. Your role will involve liaising and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, therefore it is crucial that you have excellent communication skills, along with outstanding organisation and customer relationship skills.

Transmission are part of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, operating under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain. We take the electricity generated from various sources, and transport it to areas of demand around our towns and cities.
