Job Title: Protection & Control Engineer

Location: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness or Perth

Salary: £31,000 – £46,500 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

Permanent | Full Time Hours with flexible working patterns available

Our Role

As Protection & Control Engineer you will provide technical Protection & Control support across multiple projects. This will include creating outline scheme designs and KLDs; developing scope and specifications for new build substations as well as modification to the existing P&C system. You will also be responsible for reviewing contractor/consultants detailed designs and witness FAT, provide settings for relays and support the development of signal lists. You will support field teams to ensure quality of installations and you will evaluate tenders and scope and, procure and manage specialist services from consultants.

Your Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role will have a degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience to this role. You should have a good awareness of the technical functions in Transmission along with an appreciation of legal and regulatory obligations and LCP governance and engineering processes. You will understand legislation and the implications for the Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.

The softer more personal attributes of the ideal candidate will include diligence and the ability to determine critical technical issues and prioritise them. You must be a problem solver with strength of character to ensure critical matters are addressed by the project teams and you must possess excellent communication skills.

At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
