Established in 2005 in China, as a vertically integrated manufacturer and supplier of photovoltaic (PV) products, the company has more than 28,000 employees worldwide. The Company's headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located in Hi-Tech Industrial Park, Xin Yu City Jiang Xi Province in the People's Republic of China. The company maintains sales, marketing, and customer service offices throughout Asia, Europe and North America. 

The company currently has a 27.000 MT polysilicon production capacity, 4.000 MW of PV wafer production (one of the largest PV wafer producers in the world), 1600MW of cell production, and 2200 MW of module production capacity, with a strong focus in cost leadership. 

This role is for an R&D Development Director for the Solar Module division, being responsible for all activities related to the PV module reliability & quality programs, technology roadmap and Research & Development programs. The R&D Development Director will lead the product reliability activities, provide industry level insight and vision on technology trends and collaborate with other top executives to technologically plan, utilize, and apply the company's competitive advantages to further revenue growth. In addition, this position will be the forefront advocate for the company's technology, both internally and externally, including strategic partners, customers and analysts. The position is responsible for the scientific direction of the business unit to seek out and evaluate new technology, conduct feasibility testing and proof of concept experiments, oversee the product development process in conjunction with the business unit leader and lead the business unit's growth in technical and scientific knowledge building.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The main areas of the role are as follows:

  • Provide technology and development vision for the solar business unit focused on new technologies, industry trends, the solar value chain and new product opportunities.
  • Develop or analyze new production technologies and opportunities. Accountability for the solar technology roadmap and identifying/defining opportunities to expand the product portfolio and/or enter new segments.
  • Initiate and lead Research & Development projects and development programs. Commercialize lab technologies into volume production.
  • Establish a quality and reliability qualification process for new components and materials for the manufacturing of PV modules, in coordination with the Quality team.
  • Manage the R&D laboratories and the team of lab engineers, as well as defining and supervising the different testing projects and the test results, extracting conclusions, and taking the necessary management decisions on that basis for improving quality.
  • Set up and manage a global product development team for the creation of new products and systems development for global use, such as off-grid module line and applications, residential PV kits for the US and Europe.
  • Provide technical support to other business functions of the company
  • Formulate and lead research, conceptualization & early stage design of potential next generation products and technologies, to maintain the organization's competitive position and profitability.

Experience:

  • 5+ years related experience in a CSi manufacturing environment or solar capital equipment
  • 10+ years senior level related experience within solar or semiconductor manufacturing to include integrated line, process, equipment expertise, and demonstrated ability to lead and drive technology results at the senior executive level.
  • Working knowledge of solar cell processes and module manufacturing technologies
  • Global experience preferably Asia 

Education / Languages

Education:

MS in a scientific or engineering discipline 

Preferred:

PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.

Languages Needed:

Fluent English

Mandarin Chinese would be a strong advantage.

Additional European languages would be advantageous.
