A new opportunity has arisen for a Regional Portfolio Manager to join our Portfolio Management Team based at an agreed location in one of our Regional depots in the SSEN (South) Licence area.
You’ll Manage and lead a team of Engineers within the Portfolio Management team providing the business with technical expertise in terms of carrying out all aspects of the technical assessment, planning and development of the distribution network to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and licence requirements in the most economic, efficient and co-ordinated manner. In this role, you will manage the team to assess both network performance and asset condition, as well as making recommendations for improvements to meet the current and future requirements of SSEN. Therefore, SSEN will be looking for you to deliver regulatory outputs, outperformance, maximise incentives to ensure the primary and secondary network is fit for purpose.
The Portfolio Management Team act as custodian of the 132kV, 33kV, 11kV and LV Primary and distribution network and is responsible for the planning, development and investment in SSEN’s distribution networks in the South of England. The team's responsibilities include investment management of the network to meet growth in renewable generation and new demand and identifying project solutions to improve the health and performance of the network. We're looking for System Planning Engineers to manage the CAPEX investment programme, ensuring our electricity network remains fully compliant with the technical and regulatory requirements of our licence.
You will hold a key role within the Electricity Networks business, ensuring that available funding is spent efficiently and effectively on investments. You will work closely with a number of other teams in SSEN and contribute to the planning and development of the distribution networks in line with the company's licence obligations and the objectives set by the industry regulator in the Price Control Reviews. You will gain experience of working with other industry bodies, such as the industry regulator OFGEM, the UK Transmission Operator National Grid, and Renewable Developers.
As well as developing and embedding our safety culture through out our region, you’ll also be responsible for providing support and advice to Delivery and Operations teams on the best approach to resolving a reactive fault or issue on the network. Finally, you’ll review, recommend and present needs and business cases for Capex and Opex schemes for approval in line with delegated authority policy.
To be successful in this role you will be educated to a minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering, although a degree qualification is preferred working towards Chartered Engineer. You will need to have experience of working on DNO Primary and/or Distribution networks. To obtain the higher salary you will have proven experience of 132 kV and above. You will be required to demonstrate an ability to work well with external customers and consultants, and with other internal departments within SSEN. You will be able to show strong communication, leadership and organisational skills and have good judgement in decision making under pressure. As such you should possess good analytical skills, an ability to solve problems on a logical basis, and then communicate proposals and associated reasoning. It is essential that you have experience of using MS Office, and it is desirable that you have previous experience in using SINCAL/PSSE and Enmac (Power On) or similar systems.
Your Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you’ll have the following;
- Engineering degree working towards Chartered Engineer
- Knowledge of the design, operation, protection and safety of HV/EHV electricity networks
- Experience gained by spending time working within the organisation, another DNO, or engineering consultancy or networks business
- In depth knowledge of statutory, regulatory & license requirements, industry wide codes & engineering standards
- Knowledge of modelling complex electrical networks using power systems analysis software and interpretation of results
- Process & analyse large volumes of data and present results in a clear & concise manner
- Understanding safety of risk assessment and mitigation processes applied to engineering
- Understanding of CDM regulations, ideally with a safety qualification such as IOSH
- Good IT skills, conversant with excel and office for monitoring reports and presentations
