SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER

LOCATION:    Stafford

SALARY:         Negotiable

THE COMPANY 

• My client is a specialised engineering consultancy that provided technical resources to the power industry and is widely recognised as one of the leading HV engineering businesses in the UK

THE ROLE       

• Responsible for control & protection system designs on one or multiple contracts.
• Under take control & protection design activities
• Identify and maximise cost reduction opportunities on design activities
• Configuration of numerical protection relays to meet design criteria
• Lead design reviews, both internal and with the Client
• Provide support and guidance to other design engineers and draughtsmen during the design phase
• Planning of the engineering aspects of the project deliverables.
• Provide support and guidance to site installation and commissioning staff during site activities
• Specification of components used in the design for procurement purposes
• Carry out site visits to assess the scope of work and production of accurate engineering reports
• Liaise with client regarding design issues
• Liaise with the Engineering and Project Managers
• Where necessary support the tendering or other internal departments
• Understanding of relay configuration and protection settings

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

• HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

• Good knowledge and experience of UK, international standards and codes of practise for control & protection
• Good experience in a similar position
• Excellent knowledge of electrical power utility systems and substations
• Experience in application and configuration of protection relays
• Excellent communication skills
• IT Literacy
• Conscientious work ethic
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and meet customer needs
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team
