have an opportunity for an individual to join our team and take a leading role
in the delivery of mechanical designs for our water sector clients. Our mechanical
engineers apply their specialist skills to a range of water projects covering
water and wastewater treatment, bioresources treatment, pumping stations, storm
water drainage and flood prevention, renewable energy technologies and energy
efficiency review

You
will also have the opportunity to support advisory services such as strategic
planning, regulatory advice, asset optimisation, advising on delivery of
efficient capital programmes and developing/applying transformational digital
solutions.

Reporting
to the MEICA (Mechanical Electrical Instrumentation Control and Automation)
Team Leader, you will be part of a multidiscipline water group covering civil,
structural, MEICA and process skills. The group currently includes over 100
engineers working out of the Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff and Ty Awen (Newport)
offices. Our clients include water companies, regulatory bodies, Natural
Resources Wales, Environment Agency and local councils.

The base for the successful candidate will be
our state of the art Belfast City Centre office at Bedford House which is a
very positive working environment.

Role

You
will lead the mechanical discipline in the Belfast office water team. You will
be responsible for planning work activities and resource requirements. You will
ensure technical quality is maintained and manage the review process. You will
be responsible for managing and supervising colleagues in the production of
project outputs. You will ensure that projects deliver the required commercial
outcomes. You will be involved in writing proposals for new work.

You
will be involved in mentoring more junior people to support and develop
individuals in their technical specialisation.

You
will collaborate with colleagues and clients as a part of teams delivering
multidisciplinary projects. You will develop imaginative and innovative
solutions in response to the project brief. You will provide input at all
stages of the project life cycle from concept to delivery, including detailed
design and advisory services. You will interface directly with clients and
represent Arup.

You
will also have the opportunity to interface with MEICA colleagues across the UK
and globally, supporting and developing infrastructure projects in a range of
industries.

Candidates
will be required to travel to client offices and sites along with other Arup
offices as part of the role.

Requirements and skills

Essential
Skills and Knowledge:

·
Bachelors
or Masters degree in mechanical engineering (or similar).

·
Chartered
or Incorporated member of the IMechE (or equivalent professional institution).

·
Excellent
knowledge of mechanical equipment used in potable water treatment, wastewater
and sludge treatment, and network infrastructure projects.

·
Excellent
knowledge of closed loop hydraulics and proficient in open channel hydraulics.

·
Excellent
knowledge of relevant legislation and standards covering topics such as lifting
operations and pressure systems.

·
Experience
of leading mechanical design teams.

·
Experience
of working in multidiscipline design teams.

·
Experienced
in project management.

·
Excellent
written and verbal communication skills.

·
Experienced
in writing specifications, reports and technical notes.

·
Proficient
user of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and
Word.

Desirable
Skills and Knowledge:

·
Typically
7+ years’ experience in water or similar process industry.

·
Understanding
of established water sector biological and chemical treatment processes and
awareness of new technology treatment options.

·
Knowledge
of relevant design tools and techniques such as HAZOP studies.

·
Knowledge
of CAD software for creating P&IDs, 2D and 3D designs, and understanding of
how this is used in the BIM environment.

·
Understanding
of the requirements for working in confined spaces. May have training in
confined space entry.

·
Knowledge
of ATEX / DSEAR / potentially explosive atmospheres.

·
Experience
of contract management using the NEC form of contract.

·
Knowledge
of CDM Regulations.

·
Knowledge
of whole life cost methodologies.

·
Experience
of preparing proposals for competitive tenders.

·
Mentoring
of junior engineers to achieve their professional qualification.

·
Full
UK driving licence.
