Senior Power Systems Consultant
Manchester
£35-45,000 depending on experience (negotiable)
A leading power systems engineering consultancy with a strong position in the offshore wind and power system analysis sector is actively seeking Senior Power Engineers to join the extremely well regarded consultancy team.
The role is primarily desk-based with some external meetings and site visits but would suit a power engineer from either project or studies background as the role can be developed around individuals that are viewed as having potential for the company and the team.
Responsibilities
- Have a good client focus
- Be able to interpret client requirements and manage and deliver projects to their satisfaction.
- Responding to enquiries, identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, undertaking studies, writing and reviewing reports, managing client relationships and managing small project teams.
- Communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner and be capable of technical discussions at a senior level.
Skills and Experience
- Degree qualified or equivalent with the Chartered Engineer status or pending.
- Practical experience of transmission, distribution or generation projects
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality technical reports.
- Good spreadsheet knowledge
- Project management or project engineering experience
- Commercial awareness
- Experience of economic analysis and cost-benefit appraisals
- Knowledge of QA systems and document management
- Good knowledge of UK and international standards and codes
- Good understanding of loadflow, fault and dynamic calculations.
- Knowledge of IPSA, PSSE or DigSilent and other analysis packages and software languages such as C++, Fortran, Python or Visual Basic would also be advantageous but practical experience would be equally valued.
- Transmission and distribution regulatory issues, equipment specification and procurement
- Contract negotiation and management, network planning and constraint analysis
- Operation and maintenance and health and safety issues
- Controller and equipment modelling, Harmonic Analysis and filter design
- Protection and co-ordination, Control system design and analysis
- EMT analysis, Power electronics and HVDC
- Earthing design
