The Energy Practice comprises a group of highly experienced professionals specialising in techno-economic and management consultancy services for the energy sector, with particular emphasis on the power sector, including least-cost investment planning, renewable energy, regulation and smart networks. Projects are split almost equally between the UK and overseas – the practice has undertaken assignments in nearly 100 countries. We have a broad range of clients, including multi-lateral lending agencies, governments, regulators, electricity companies, natural resources companies and private. In the UK the practice is involved in pioneering assignments working closely with distribution companies, universities and leading companies in the application of smart technology to improve the utilisation of electrical distribution systems. Our strength lies in our ability to combine strategic, financial/economic and technical advice as an integrated consultancy service to public and private sector clients.


We wish to grow and develop the skills and expertise of the Energy Practice within Ricardo Energy & Environment, in line with our plans for the development of the practice. Therefore, we are seeking a Senior /Principal Consultant with the ability and potential to drive and participate in this growth.

Key accountabilities:

Candidates will be responsible for managing and participating in network innovation projects. As Project Managers they will be responsible to the appropriate Business Area Manager, with the potential for further promotion, reporting directly to the Practice Director of the Energy Practice. Candidates would also be expected to contribute as team members to assignments led by others as appropriate.

It is also expected that candidates will play a key role in the preparation of winning proposals in their area of expertise.

Key competencies and experience:

* A Bachelors or Master’s degree within a relevant discipline, or equivalent qualification

Power Sector Specialists will have experience in projects, preferably across a range of different countries, in one or more of the following areas:

* Network innovation projects and funding mechanisms

* Deployment of smart solutions including the use of power electronics in distribution systems

* Regulation

* Power system control and operation

Previous consultancy experience is desirable

* There may be opportunities to travel overseas for short periods if desired.
