SSE Engineering Craft Apprenticeship Opportunities - 2019
Salary: Circa £10,000 with a yearly increase and company benefits
Thinking about life after school or perhaps a change in career? Maybe you enjoy fixing things or prefer being outdoors and doing hands-on practical work? Or perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to learn a new skill? We are delighted to offer a number of apprenticeship opportunities which will enable you to gain valuable skills and on-the-job experience, whilst simultaneously achieving an industry recognised qualification.
What does the programme offer?
Our Apprenticeship Programme offers you the chance to earn whilst you learn new skills and gain valuable work experience and qualifications. The programme can take 3 to 4 years to complete and is centred on work based learning and training linked directly to the job.
By the end of the programme you'll have an accreditation that will offer you the opportunity to build a rewarding and successful career in the energy sector. Sustainability underpins everything we do so we believe in making the most of our most valuable assets - our people - and supporting them to be their best. With a carefully designed development programme, you’ll have everything you need to progress your SSE career as far as you want to go.
What Programmes are available?
We have opportunities for you to join as an Apprentice in Mechanical or Electrical Contracting, as a Multi Craft Apprentice in our Generation & Renewables business and as a Linesperson, Jointer or Electrical Fitter in our Energy Networks business.
All these roles offer you the chance to achieve a Modern Apprenticeship qualification and a City & Guilds Technical Certificate (or SVQ in Scotland) at level 2 or 3 depending on the role. They also offer you the opportunity to learn new skills that will help you build a successful career in the energy industry.
Regardless of the programme you select, you will be supported by a our Apprentice Programme Manager, a dedicated mentor, your SSE colleagues who you'll work with during your on the job training and also by the support you will receive from your college tutors. The majority of our apprentices attend college on a block release arrangement for several weeks at any one time; this will mean you may have to live away from home for short periods of time but we will support you fully during this time.
What do I need?
You don't need any experience to apply. You just need to have an interest in the work we do at SSE, an appreciation of our core values, particularly safety, and the desire to do well.
In terms of qualifications, we'd prefer you to have achieved or be on target to achieve a minimum of 3 GCSE's (or equivalent) which includes Maths and English and a Science / Engineering / Technical subject. Candidates who do not meet this criteria, have other relevant qualifications and can demonstrate the desired level of competence through the assessment process will also be considered.
Please note there is no upper age limit to join our programme.
Application closing date: 10th March 2019
Successful candidates will start in September 2019 and will be subject to our verification and vetting process which includes a qualification and basic criminal record check along with drug and alcohol testing.
