Salary: circa £16,000 pro rata
SSE is a British FTSE35 company and as one of the UK's largest and most diverse energy companies, we are always keen to identify great new talent. Our core values of Safety, Service, Efficiency, Sustainability, Excellence and Teamwork illustrate what we as a company are about and we strive to reflect these values in all we do.
A FTSE 100 company with some 20,000 employees, we’re still growing and have ambitious plans for the future. Our summer placement opportunities offer you the opportunity not only to play a part in achieving our goals, but to grow with us as well. As we look to finding better, more efficient and affordable ways of producing energy, there’s huge scope for you to make a real contribution at SSE.
We have opportunities within our Generation and Renewables business for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering undergraduates that have completed their third year of a Masters degree. These opportunities can be based in Glasgow, Ferrybridge or Strathpeffer, near Inverness. We also have an opportunity available in Perth for a Civil Engineering student that has completed their second year of a Bachelors or Masters degree.
Our summer placement students will work with us to turn data into information; giving us an insight into the health of our generation assets. This could be the performance of our wind turbines, both onshore and offshore, or modelling the creep life of high temperature components in our thermal power stations. You'll need a good understanding of power generation systems, an analytical approach and a passion for finding value in data.
Candidates should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long term future with us. We're looking for the future leaders of our business; it's therefore important that you are flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making. The ability to interpret numerical and contractual data is paramount as well as effective communication of your conclusions. Interpersonal skills are vital as you will be responsible for representing the business at all levels and with various internal and external stakeholders.
Application closing date: 13th March 2018
Successful candidates will start in August 2018 and will be subject to our verification and vetting process which includes a qualification and basic criminal record check.
