Description
Technical Director - Landscape
Various
Salary; £50 - £55k + excellent benefits
Ref; 10982
Our client, a prestigious and world leading multi-disciplinary consultancy has a fantastic career opportunity for a Landscape Technical Director, to be based in the Edinburgh, London or Midlands Office. You would be part of our hugely busy and successful Environment Energy Team, who are currently delivering some 18GW+ of consenting applications within the UK, but also part of a global organisation which would give you access to a significant array of very impressive clients and projects.
Currently, work is being outsourced and they would like to bring these skills in house. Work includes:
- Feasibility and optioneering studies;
- Master planning, planning and consent applications;
- Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA); and
- Building, infrastructure and transportation design.
The business is expanding rapidly, particularly in the energy and industry sectors, and the addition of a landscape group is complimentary to their ambitions to provide a better and more comprehensive service to existing and new clients.
They would like to recruit an individual who can initially take over (with a small team) the quality control and management of existing sub-consultants, with a view to assuming some of the duties over time (and with the approval of the client). They have an extensive portfolio of clients and projects to whom we can immediately present our landscape and visual abilities, once grown, and there is expected to be a very rapid acquisition of fee earning work.
The successful applicant will be expected to possess a strong landscape consultancy background and be able to demonstrate the development and leadership of a successful team. The candidate will have a proven track record in a project managerial/directoral role, co-ordinating and managing the landscape elements of large infrastructure projects. The ability to provide due diligence and expert witness services to our client base would be hugely desirable.
Main Responsibilities:
- Technical and line management lead for all landscape and visual elements within the portfolio of clients and projects;
- Integration and communication with similarly skilled personnel throughout the wider company, to offer landscape and visual skills on an international basis;
- Project management and/or directing, and coordination of landscape and visual elements of our projects;
- Liaising with clients and internal multidisciplinary teams;
- Undertaking landscape and visual impact assessments for renewable energy, marine and infrastructure projects;
- Preparation of fee proposals;
- Assisting with business development; and
- Report writing- production of landscape and visual Environmental Statement (ES) chapters.
This is very much a technical position where a large amount of flexibility will be awarded to the right candidate to grow this business in the manner they see best. You will report to the Energy Group Director in the first instance but in all matters landscape and visual you will be seen as the UK lead. In effect, this is a position that offers enormous opportunities for a driven, energetic and ambitious candidate, with significant opportunities and client networks already in place.
Qualifications & experience:
- BSc (essential) and MSc (desirable) in a related discipline.
- Experience in landscape/environmental consultancy (essential).
- Experience in project management and EIA (essential).
- Knowledge of the energy sector (essential) and previous experience of working on renewable projects.
- Understanding of relevant legal standards, the EIA process, and relevant government policy (essential), particularly relating to the sectors described above (desirable).
- Landscape and visual technical skills (essential).
- IEMA membership or similar relevant chartered status (desirable).
- Financial management and administration experience (essential).
- Report-writing and presentational skills (essential).
- Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills (essential).
- Ability to work on own initiative and also to work as part of a growing team (essential).
My client also offers an excellent benefits package.
All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
