The Trials & Environmental Test Department performs many activities related to testing and performance monitoring of the various defence projects. The Trials & Environmental Test Department is involved in Environmental Planning, Testing, Development Trials, Missile Acceptance processing and In Service Support for UK MOD and Overseas trials. The Trials & Environmental Test Engineer must be technically competent to carry out tasks associated with any project within the Trials & Environmental Test Department. Activities will include: Prepare and operate ground instrumentation equipment as specified for a Test/TrialCarry out testing of missiles or missile systems in preparation for Ground or Flight Trials.Install and set to work equipment associated with missiles and Missile Systems.Install equipment on customers' premisesSupport training at Thales and at customers premises.Provide support to customers on site as required.Prepare Plans, Requirements, Procedures, write Defect Reports and Technical reports etc.Design, sketch and prepare special purpose test or trials hardware.Lead a team during the execution of a test or trial.Support customer missile firings, either as a team leader/member or autonomously.Assess records after a test/trial and determine the relative success of the trial before proceeding with the next stage.Liaise with other Engineering and Future Business departments on technical information and hardware availability.Support training at Thales and at customers premises.Support teams away from base. Skills, Experience and Qualifications needed: An honor's degree in Mechanical Engineering plus relevant Mechanical experience or an HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, plus experience in Vibration or Structural testing. Vibration/Structural planning of mechanical components.Vibration/Structural testing of mechanical components or complete systems.The use of instrumentation within a manufacturing environment.Demonstrate an understanding of data analysis methods.Writing engineering reports and proceduresComputer literate, including basic excel spreadsheet creation and manipulationFull driving license ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThe successful applicant will be required to work overtime, often at short notice, and agreed working patterns to comply with capacity demands. This job will also require substantial business travel again sometimes at short notice for any thing up to 4 weeks at any one time.
