Job Title: Wind Mechanical Team Leader
Location: Dublin OR Glasgow OR Perth
Salary: £36k - £47k OR €52K - €63K depending on skills and experience + annual bonus
Permanent | Full Time Hours | 38 hours per week
To manage the Wind Mechanical Engineering team to ensure that mechanical assets across the fleet of onshore windfarms are managed safely and effectively for both routine maintenance activities and defect resolution activities. The role can be based from out Dublin office, Glasgow office or Perth office
1. Safety, Health & Environment
Ensuring that SSE’s Management Standards and good industry practices are considered in addition to legislation, with the overall intention of ensuring that employees, the general public and the environment are not “at risk” with the operation of SSE’s Wind Turbine assets. Completing safety incident investigations as required.
2. Asset Integrity Management and Maintenance Delivery
Supporting O&M teams delivery of maintenance scopes on wind turbine assets within a given financial year and ensuring that maintenance standards are consistently applied across the fleet. To continuously challenge “the norm” and ensure that innovative maintenance practices are considered and implemented into procedure, where deemed relevant / cost effective. Providing planned and unplanned technical support including technical investigations. Monitoring plant health and ensuring appropriate response to emergent issues with potentially significant safety and business implications on a risk management basis.
3. Contract Management and Project Management
Performing all elements of contract management from specification/scope writing, technical evaluation of contractor’s proposal, through to planning, setting to work and continuous monitoring of safety and performance as well as claim disputes. Providing direct project management delivery service for specific activities required by the business, including safety, reliability and design improvement.
4. Reactive Work
Reacting effectively to non-routine occurrences at sites, i.e. mechanical failures, requests from 3rd parties, etc. Ensuring that solutions identified are technically correct and cost effective to maximise safety and production. To ensure that any “regular” failures are considered and solutions put forward to management to reduce the operating impact with proactive measures where possible.
5. Budget Delivery and Planning
Collaboratively work with Commercial team to identify resource requirements to ensure delivery of budget submissions within a given financial year. To build budget submissions for upcoming financial years that consider the following: routine maintenance activities, rectification of defects / regular issues, implementation of innovative ideas to improve safety and / or operating performance.
6. Business Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
Ensuring that safety issues identified either within or outwith the business are communicated effectively with control measures outlined. Ensuring that plans are in place to minimise downtime for failed assets and that these plans are communicated to management. Ensuring that outputs of safety / technical workgroups are communicated to the wider SSE business and external businesses, where applicable. To maintain regular contact with key stakeholders to ensure that the Wind Mechanical Engineering team is delivering an effective service.
7. Line Management
Perform line management duties for team of Mechanical Engineers, including: identification of objectives that benefit both the business and personal development goals of the individuals, performance management reviews and identification of personal development opportunities. Understanding the challenges with operating a geographically diverse fleet of assets and ensuring that human factors are considered when approaching routine & non-routine work.
Your Skills and Experience
-Experience managing teams in engineering / utility environment would be an advantage, but not essential.
-Degree qualified in a core engineering function, or the ability to demonstrate suitable experience in a similar role.
-Ability to perform both safety, environmental and technical risk assessments to ensure that activities are managed safely and effectively, without unnecessary overreactions.
-Competent in discussing machinery safety legislation and implementation of such through recognised safe systems of work.
-Competent in discussing technology that the successful candidate will have asset management responsibility for (gearboxes, bearings, blades, etc)
-Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
-Ability to be innovative to ensure that SSE’s Wind business is aware of emerging best practices, technologies, etc.
