The Role

As Work Package Managers in Project Development you will be responsible for leading and delivering multi discipline engineering work packages through all stages of a project lifecycle from concept through to construction.

This will include evaluating and defining project engineering needs, leading on the delivery and coordination of work package activities including the management of internal and external resources with the ultimate objective of delivering the engineering work packages safely, on time and on budget.

You will be a key member of large project teams with the ability to work in a flexible and delivery focused manner, using your engineering, commercial experience and interpersonal skills to deliver cost effective solutions to meet the engineering demands of large-scale capital projects. During development phase of projects, the role will cover preliminary engineering, drafting and issuing invitations to tender, evaluating tender submissions, and negotiating with preferred suppliers to achieve contract award. During the delivery phase of projects, the role will require the management of contracts and contractors on site from the start of construction through to project handover, ensuring all construction activities are completed safely, efficiently and to contract specifications.

You will be comfortable leading multi-discipline teams, taking decisions and leading on all aspects of technical specifications, contract negotiation and management (technical and commercial), and be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines. You will also be experienced in the preparation and presentation of contract recommendations at all levels within the organisation combined with the ability to build relationships with a wide internal and external stakeholder group.

The roles will suit engineers keen to be at the forefront of new projects motivated by delivering engineering expertise in a commercially driven environment. In the roles you will be the key to turning ideas into reality through hard work, teamwork, innovative thinking and a desire to succeed. You will be responsible for leading individuals from right across the organisation, promoting team work and setting the standards to ensure the successful delivery of the next generation of SSE’s large-scale renewable generation projects.

What do I need?

You will have experience in leading and coordinating technical teams. Extensive contract writing, preparation tendering, and negotiation experience is essential. Furthermore, you will be required to lead, support and develop less experienced individuals in your team. You must also be able to demonstrate a willingness to take on responsibility and be capable of managing multiple relationships at all levels within the organisation.

You will demonstrate self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to create a collaborative, team focused environment.
